Investigating workplace grievances and disciplinary matters is a complex and risky enterprise. There are currently no standards for training investigators; undertaking investigations; or managing an investigation provision, other than those developed by CMP which build on our unprecedented experience.

You can benchmark your investigation provision against our Achieving Investigation Excellence^© standards; which audits in detail performance in three areas, and recommends clear action plans which will provide return on investment and minimise risk at ETs:

1. Maximising return on investment
Making sure you get the most effective service for your money by appropriate policy development, linking your formal processes with your organisational aims particularly in relation to equality and diversity and performance issues; culture change in relation to diversity; analysis of problem areas and remedial action to overcome these; leadership strategies; HR procedures; promotion; monitoring and evaluation.

2. Investigation provision management
Making sure that how you manage investigations is quality-driven and effectively coordinated and delivering an impartial and independent service.

3. Investigator practice standards
Ensuring that your investigators are fit for purpose, and have a route for supervision or development that meets emerging best practice by a support plan, supervision and casework reflection, continuing practice development, undertaking an adequate case load.
