Mediation Supervisor

This course provides intensive training to mediators who want to or have been tasked with taking on the role of developing and supervising other less experienced mediators. You will need to be an experienced mediator from any mediation background and will learn the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable you to provide effective supervision of mediators.

By the end of the course you will have:

  • become familiar with the core elements of supervision in mediation – Accountability; Development and Support
  • identified the nature of the Supervisory relationship and ways to develop appropriate contracts to reflect this
  • explored the pivotal role that the Supervisor plays in balancing the demands of management and practice delivery
  • built an awareness of effective equality and diversity practice and its relevance for supervision
  • been given an overview of CMP’s Achieving Excellence Programme and the place of Supervision within it.
  • become familiar with the existing  standards of effective practice delivery as defined by key regulatory bodies
  • considered various leadership styles in response to the developmental needs of supervisees
  • identified the role of the Supervisor in coaching and mentoring new mediators and assisting them to reach a high standard of competency
  • explored ways to encourage experienced mediators to further develop their skills and maintain their knowledge of mediation practice.
  • considered ways to challenge poor performance and increase standards of practice
  • considered the role of the Supervisor in accommodating and encouraging a range of mediation styles and practices to meet client need
  • explored a range of supervision methods such as one to one supervision, co-working supervision, team supervision and direct observation
  • considered helpful recording techniques
  • had opportunity to practice delivering supervision between modules and be able to reflect on and articulate the application of theory to practice.
